DR McCARTY’S PROFILE

Karen is a highly experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist working within the NHS and privately.  She provides clinical interventions to adults, children, and their families. Her knowledge and experience of child development and neurodiversity (e.g. ASD, ADHD) contribute to her work with adults, by providing a wider perspective to make sense of current struggles and adapt treatment approaches appropriately.

Karen focuses on putting client’s needs first, working collaboratively, and adapting her approach to provide the best outcomes for the individual. Her particular areas of interest include trauma and attachment/relational difficulties. She is able to utilise a number of therapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Mentalization Based Therapy, EMDR and Compassion Focused Therapy for a wide range of difficulties (e.g. anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, Complex trauma, emotional dysregulation, low-self esteem, etc.).
